General Information:

This 5-screen mall theater opened in 1979. It was both a UA and a Taubman outlet at that time as the opening ad indicates. I found an article from 1987 that involved a series of bizarre hair-cutting incidents at this theater. Some crazed idiot was sneaking up behind long-haired female patrons and cutting off their hair. The theater would issue free passes to the victims which seems ridiculous now.

By 1999 or so, the theater became know as "United Artists Oakland". I found an article from October 2000 that indicated the Oakland Mall theater went dark in April of that year along with the 12 Oaks, AMC Eastland, AMC BelAir 10, and AMC Towne Theaters in Oak Park. These earlier multiplexes wiped out many of the single screen neighborhood houses, but they were later wiped out by ever large multiplexes.
