General Information:

AKA Gallery Theater

This theater was built by Harvey Callier and was eventually taken over by Dwight Cowden who at the time was editor of the Belding Banner News. The recent photo compared to the post card view is confusing. According to to a site called SonicGeography, the shopping center beyond the bank used to be 2 blocks of downtown (W Main St) that was obliterated to make room for Village Mall which has now mostly failed.

Amazingly, the old bank building featured in the postcard still exists as a bank although I think it was for sale when I was there in 2021. It is obvious that the theater is now gone however. I ended up comparing a 1955 aerial photo to the present day and it is astonishing how much of Belding was destroyed to accommodate the Village Mall. I will use the address of the bank as that is it was next door to the Callier and it still exists.
