I believe the restaurant portion of Smitty's (A&W and Papa Romanos Pizza) goes back to the 1960's at least. Interestingly, the go-kart track and miniature golf course didn't appear on the historical aerial maps until the 1990's. Given the size of the building, there were probably arcade games inside also.
There were many mentions of places named "Smitty's" around the state, I don't think they were connected to this location given the commonality of the name. I found nothing in the newspaper archives pertaining to THIS Smitty's specifically. The 2015 street view seems to indicate this location was already closed. As of 2023, there is no listing of a business at this address.
I took another look at the historical aerial photo for this place and it seems there was a motel next door at one point. I think the foundation remains as of 2023. The Redwood Motor Inn is right up the street but the motel I am seeing is between Smitty's and Redwood. I will research it further to see if I can determine the name.
