Update 12/22/2024: I just checked Google Maps and the place is open as Gino's Surf once again. Yay!
Gino's is basically a local institution on the St. Clair River. It was a banquet hall, nightclub, supper club, restaurant, bar, and everything in between. The real estate listing states it was built in 1951 and the aerial photos support that. The heyday was probably the 1970's when they were booking national entertainment acts into the place. I played there myself in a cover band a few times back in the late 1990's or early 2000's. It was definitely a fun place.
Like most older facilities, it had plenty of ups and downs over the years, lawsuits, bankruptcies, changes in ownership. I have posted most of what I could find on all of that. As of 2022, there is still talk of it re-opening but the building needs repairs. It has been added on to over the years, you can see from the older aerial photo it was a somewhat smaller place initially.
