This was the Butterfield chain's exploitation theater in Grand Rapids. It always ran double features, and, in the fifties, mainly ran horror/slasher/Japanese monster films. This was a fine old vaudeville house on lower Monroe that had fallen on hard times and was still trying to stay in business until it was demolished in urban renewal. What a waste.

The theater was there until the renovation project for the city began back in the 60's. It stood were the city county buildings are presently.

This theatre looks like it was built in the 20's or 30's. This picture from 1943 is interesting because it promotes air conditioning, a boon to many early theatres as during the summer months they proved to be a great place to cool off before AC became common in homes.
