Tanz Haus was a concert venue in the Acme area that opened June 26, 1964. It had the motif and appearance of a ski lodge. It was operated by Gerald and Elmer Ogden of Bay City, who were brothers. It began as a non-alcoholic all-ages club but later evolved into a bar. It featured regional and national acts like The Bob Seeger System, The Pleasure Seekers, Ted Nugent, BB King, Meatloaf, Terry Knight and the Pack, The Frost, Scott Richard's Case (AKA SRC), and many others.
The last mention I found in the newspaper archives under the Tanz Haus name was in 1977. The building still stood for a time after that so I imagine it operated under a different name. By the early 1990's the old building was razed and an office/warehouse/retail type building sits on the lot as of 2024.
One point of trivia from the Pizza Don't Go Bad blog regarding Glen Frey rolling The Rationals (great band) Van: [Years later, Frey came clean while being interviewed about gigging at Traverse City, Michigan's 1960's teen hangout, The Tanz Haus: "Yeah I remember the place", laughed Frey. "One time I borrowed The Rationals van to get up there and I was flying through a small town (Manton) and lost control of the van on the curve and totaled the van and trashed the equipment I borrowed as well."] (See photo of van below)
