William Williams constructed a sawmill here in 1851, and the main part of the village was built on his land. Lumberman I.N. Jenness was a village co- founder. The MILL STATION P.O. opened in 1867, renamed ELK LAKE in 1870, and Attica in 1871, named after its township, named for a province of Greece.
