From Michigan Place Names
Midland County: this village on Swan Creek, in Ingersoll Township, was given a post Office as Lee's Comer, after a local landowner on Jan. 26, 1874, with Curtis J. Winslow as its first postmaster. The office was renamed Laporte on April 6, 1895, and operated until Jan. 31, 1910. (Blinn; PO Archives)
