This entry is to document planned sports venues that never came to fruition. Here is the list I have so far:

1. Twin Stadium in Pontiac 1970 - This was an idea to house the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. Agreements were signed by 1971 by the owner of the Lions, William Clay Ford. John Fetzer, owner of the Tigers, was less enthusiastic. Eventually the idea was shelved.
2. Southfield Tiger Stadium 1969 - This $100 million dollar, 73,000-seat stadium was to be flanked by an office building and hotel. The location was to be I-696, Inkster Rd, 11 Mile Rd, and Telegraph. That's a big area. It was slated to be a domed affair but never got beyond the proposal stages.
3. Michigan State Fairgrounds 1967 - This was another idea that involved the Lions and Tigers sharing the same facility. It was put forth by Ralph Glancy, who headed a group of local developers looking to boost business in the area. The plan never came together.
4. Pontiac 1973 - This was a precursor to what eventually became the Pontiac Silverdome. This plan seemed to be for an open air idea, not a domed stadium.
5. Detroit Riverfront Stadium 1972 - This was planned to be a domed stadium for the Tigers near Cobo Arena on the Detroit River Waterfront. John Fetzer was on board and a $126-million bond issue was put forth to fund the stadium. The Lions and Pistons were also considered possible tenants. It never came to fruition.
